If you are a beginner to mountaineering and have a dream to summit the mighty Mt. Everest, Manaslu Region offers best surprise to the trekkers in the form of Mt. Himlung. Mt. Himlung lies to the northeast of Annapurna Range with an aspiring height of 7,126m. Unlike any other 7000ers, Mt. Himlung is quite easy considering the technical aspects.
The majority of the summits over 7000 meters are more difficult and technical, necessitating a high level of devotion and commitment along with mountaineering experience. For mountain climbing exceeding 7000m, you need years of training, expert assistance, and expensive equipment. You can summit Mt. Himlung with some basic knowledge and assistance, saving you the additional expense. Due to its minimum risk, it is regarded as one of the safest peaks among 7000m peaks.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be picked up by our representative at the airport and taken to the hotel. You will meet your guide, discuss the trek program, and make final preparations for the trek. If you have an early arrival, we will take you for a sightseeing trip in the UNESCO world heritage site in Kathmandu and later, in the evening, you’ll have dinner in the hotel.
From 20th March 2020 due to heavy congestion, all flights to and from Lukla depart from Ramechhap airport, 130km, a 4-hour drive from Kathmandu. It means now it’ll take an extra day to get to Lukla from Kathmandu though the flight price is the same.
Today, you will go on a sightseeing tour of the city, visiting some of the popular tourist attractions. In the afternoon, you will have a pre-climbing briefing with your guide and do some final preparation.
We will ride in a jeep for 5 hrs to Besisahar following the Marshyangdi River. It's about 230 km total from Kathmandu through some roller coasters off roads and spine shilling cliffs. You will pass through various small villages along the way. We will rest overnight in Besishahar.
After eating breakfast, we will leave Kathmandu and travel to Besi Sahar. You will witness stunning rivers, hills, and forests along the trip. Our lunch will be served by the Trisuli River. Reaching Besi sahar will take anything between 6 and 7 hours, depending on traffic. In Besi Sahar, spend the night.
Koto - Meta
The trek starts early in the morning which passes through beautiful woods, past small cave shelters and pilgrims’ resting places. The trail goes beneath a large waterfall as it emerges from a narrow canyon; after this point, the trees are thinner and the views get wider. As you approach Meta's last stretch, you must ascend a steep hill, from where you can see some of the area's enormous snow-capped peaks in breathtaking detail.
Meta - Kyang
The trek starts to reach Kyang which is 9.3 km far from Meta. It only takes 5-6 hours to reach with slight ascent and minimal descent on the way.
Kyang - Phu Gaun
We'll set out from Kyang this morning and travel through the gorge while crossing the wooden bridge. We will see the various chortens and Mani walls as we ascend the Phu valley. The chortens and Mani walls will be briefly explained by our guides. We will reach Phu valley, which is at 4580m, after hiking for 5–6 hours and crossing the final suspension bridge. Sleep in Phu Valley.
After a six-day adventure, we will rest today in Phu Valley. One of the oldest valleys, Phu Valley, was completely cut off for a very long time. Since Phu was made accessible to foreigners, not much has changed. Phu Valley is ideal for acclimatization because we have quickly ascended to an altitude of more than 4000m. Our guides will be more than delighted to show you around the Phu village, or we may spend the entire day relaxing and exploring the lovely Phu valley. Phu overnight.
Phu Gaun - Himlung base camp
Now that we are reasonably acclimatized and feeling better, we will move on to the Himlung Base Camp. Only 2-4 hours are required to hike to the base camp, where our team will set up the tents and oversee the campsite. They will also offer you a warm beverage as a welcome, and we will eat lunch at base camp, surrounded by mountains. Base Camp is located at a height of 4,842 meters. Our guides will continue to get ready for the summit. Spend the night in a tent at base camp.
The climb to Mt. Baruntse finally starts but we do not summit directly. Rather we should start the rotation in order to acclimatize climbers with the high altitude. By the time you reach base camp, the difficult chores, such as moving and establishing additional camps above base camp, providing hygienic meals during our climbing days, and selecting the optimum ascending route, will be handled by our strong Sherpa team. We will take enough days to acclimatize with the high altitude along with practicing climbing. We shall adhere to the guidance and directions of our skilled climbing specialists once we are fully outfitted with all the required climbing equipment.
We head from base camp to camp I. Next, we head to Camp II and descend to base camp. We take enough days to acclimatize.
We progress towards the top of Mt. Himlung, negotiating many difficult climbing sections, and taking the weather into consideration. Summit starts from base camp to Camp I, Camp II and Camp III in various days and finally the summit. We will spend a short but important time at the peak before descending and returning to the base camp.
Base Camp - Phu Gaun
Today, our workers will tidy up the camp and restore it to its previous state. After breakfast, we'll make our way back to Phu village. It will take about 5 to 6 hours to get to Phu Village because we will all be exhausted from the climb. When we get to Phu, we'll stay in the neighborhood inn and eat a warm dinner with butter tea.
Phu Gaun - Meta
As we return to Meta over the same route, we will see the stunning Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. We will reach Meta after navigating the suspension bridge across the Murju Khola. Overnight stay at Meta.
Meta - Koto
After breakfast, we bid Meta farewell and return to Koto. The steeply sloping path leads by the Singenge stone homes. After going over a suspension bridge, we will ascend briefly before reaching Koto. To get to Koto, it will take about 6-7 hours. a night spent in Koto.
Koto - Besisahar
Following breakfast, we will travel a jeep to Beshisahar and hand in our permits at the Dharapani Checkpoint. You will feel more at ease on the ride this time because you are familiar with the roads. We'll stop for a cup of tea along the way with a breathtaking waterfall vista. Rainbows may be visible on the waterfall. Besi Sahar can be reached in 7-8 hours by jeep. Stay the night at the Besisahar hotel.
Besisahar - Kathmandu
At Besisahar, we shall enjoy a fantastic breakfast following a nice, comfortable shower. We'll work with you to load the bus and make sure nothing is left behind. Due to exhaustion, most trekkers may doze off during the cold trip back to Kathmandu; but, don't worry, we'll wake you up for lunch. Spend the night in Kathmandu.
This is a free day in Kathmandu. Visiting Durbar squares, temple and stupas some of which are also listed in UNESCO world heritage sites or strolling around Thamel area for some souvenir shopping are the few activities you can enjoy in Kathmandu. Try various Nepali and newari cuisines if you are a food lover and want to try something new in Nepal. On top of it, people in Nepal are really humble and hospitable. You can try talking to locals and learn a few Nepali words. In the evening, you can go to local bars or pubs if you love live music where local bands perform live every night especially on weekends.
If your flight is in the evening, we will take you for sightseeing in one of the Buddhist stupa; Boudhanath/Swayambhunath which is also listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then, Our representative will receive you from the hotel and drop you at the airport for your return journey back home.
