Kapuche Lake, a true gem of nature, graces the Danda Trek route with its breathtaking beauty. Nestled along the Annapurna region near the charming village of Sikles, this remarkable lake stands out among its counterparts for its relatively lower altitude of 2,546 meters above sea level, compared to the usual 4,000-meter mark of other icy lakes in the country. As winter blankets the region with a sharp drop in temperature, the lake's waters transform into a mesmerizing frozen spectacle.
The local Gurung community bestowed the name Kapuche upon this captivating lake. A visit to Kapuche Lake not only rewards adventurers with awe-inspiring vistas of the majestic Annapurna range and the Himalayas but also offers an opportunity to immerse themselves in the tranquility of its surroundings. From the summit of Annapurna to the neighboring Himalayan peaks, the viewpoints from the lake are simply astounding.
Occasionally, nature's drama unfolds as a torrential avalanche sweeps down from the slopes, gracing the lake with a pristine layer of snow. Situated in a cool climate amidst towering mountains, Kapuche Lake serves as a basin for dissolved ice emanating from Annapurna II, IV, and Lamjung Himal. Despite being the smallest ice sheet lake in Nepal, its significance and allure are not to be underestimated.
The best time to trek to Kapuche Peak is during the spring (March-May) or fall (September-November). The weather can be unpredictable in the mountains, so it is important to be prepared for all conditions. Be sure to pack plenty of water, food, sunscreen, and a hat.
You will need to obtain a trekking permit from the Nepal Tourism Board before you start your trek and we will prepare all these required documents ready for you.
No matter what your interests are, a trek to Kapuche Peak is a great way to experience the beauty of the Annapurna region and the culture of Nepal.
