Nepal, surrounded by mountains and known as the land of Himalayas got more than 1000s of peaks. Nepal has 1,310 peaks above 6000m and 414 peaks are already open for climbing and there are only 72 peaks which are of 7000m and are climbable. These peaks are limited for climbing. Most of the 7000 m peaks are more challenging and technical which requires a high level of commitment and dedication with mountaineer experience.
Langtang Lirung is a subrange of the Nepalese Himalayas above 7000m, southwest of the Eight-thousander Shishapangma. It is part of a mountain range that also contains the Jugal Himal, Shishapangma's home range, on the western side. Between the Trisuli Gandaki river on the west and the Sun Kosi valley on the east, sits this mountain. North of the Langtang Khola, close to the Trisuli Gandaki, is where you'll find Langtang Lirung.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be picked up by our representative at the airport and taken to the hotel. From 20th March 2020 due to heavy congestion, all flights to and from Lukla depart from Ramechhap airport, 130km, a 4-hour drive from Kathmandu. It means now it’ll take an extra day to get to Lukla from Kathmandu though the flight price is the same.
Today, you will go on a sightseeing tour of the city, visiting some of the popular tourist attractions. In the afternoon, you will have a pre-climbing briefing with your guide and do some final preparation.
Kathmandu - Syabrubesi - Domen
In the morning, you will take a scenic 125 km drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the starting point of the trek. The journey takes about 5-6 hours and offers stunning views of the Langtang and Ganesh Himal Range. You will also see the Nepalese countryside and farm lives. We will hike 2 hours to a place called Domen.
Domen - Bamboo - Lama Hotel
The trek begins with a gradual ascent through forests of oak and rhododendron, passing through small villages and crossing several streams. You will reach the village of Lama Hotel by late afternoon, where you will spend the night.
Lama Hotel - Ghodatabela - Thangshyapu - Langtang Village
From Lama Hotel, our trail goes through dense forest filled with oaks, birch, hemlock and mountain bamboos. During today's trek, we will have an opportunity to spot wild monkeys and several species of birds. Our trek goes through additional forest areas to a lone teahouse at Gumnachok. A steep climb from there will lead us to Ghoratabela. There is an army check post at Ghoratabela where our permits will be checked. After registration, we continue to trek through small settlements of Chyamki and Kangtangsa before making a short and final climb to reach Langtang village.
Langtang Village - Mundu - Kyanjin Gompa
Today is a relatively short trekking day, after breakfast, we will leave Langtang village and follow the trail that heads for an easy climb through two Bhotia hamlets - Mundu and Sindum. We can enjoy great views of Langtang Lirung, Ganchenpo and Langshisa Ri during our trek. After some time, our trail climbs up the terminal moraine of Lirung Glacier and then easily descends back to reach the gompa and tea houses of Kyangjin Gompa. An additional day will be spent here for acclimatization.
Acclimatization is essential to avoid mental and physical sickness in higher altitudes. Hence, we will take a rest day at Kyangjin Gompa for acclimatization and exploration. We will make an adventurous hike to Tsergo-Ri at 4985 meters from where we will have magnificent views of Langtang Lirung and the surrounding high peaks. We will head back to Kyangjin Gompa for relaxing after the memorable and impressive hike to Tsergo-Ri.
Kyanjin Gompa - Langtang Lirung Base Camp
We will depart Kyanjin Gompa after breakfast and take the trail that leads to the Langtang Lirung Glacier. Our journey crosses the leveled route and follows the glacier's edge. We will soon follow an ascending path that brings us to a magnificent campsite, also referred to as Langtang Lirung Base Camp.
We will spend several days doing climbing training practices and trek between the camps for the best acclimatization. The difficult chores, such as moving and establishing additional camps above base camp, providing hygienic meals during our climbing days, and selecting the optimum ascending route, will be handled by our strong Sherpa team. We will take enough days to acclimatize with the high altitude along with practicing climbing. We shall adhere to the guidance and directions of our skilled climbing specialists once we are fully outfitted with all the required climbing equipment.
We progress towards the top of Mt. Langtang Lirung, negotiating many difficult climbing sections, and taking the weather into consideration. We are blessed with breathtaking views of the Langtang Himalayan Ranges, Pemthang Karpo, Gangchenpo, Shishapangma, which rises across the border of Tibet, as well as other nearby high peaks as we reach the summit. After spending a short quality time, we descend and return the same way to base camp.
Lama Hotel - Bamboo - Domen - Syafrubeshi
The final day of the trek involves a relatively easy downhill walk back to Syabrubesi. You can celebrate the end of the trek with your fellow trekkers and enjoy a well-deserved rest. We can also drive back to Kathmandu on this day if we reach Syafrubeshi earlier.
Syafrubeshi - Dhunche - Trishuli - Galchhi - Kathmandu
